<desc>999: On the Front Line joins forces with South Western Ambulance Service, getting onboard with nine crews working out of stations in Bristol, Bridgwater and Taunton as they respond to medical emergencies, revealing what life is like on the front line across the Southwest. From countryside to inner cities, the paramedics care for a population of 5.7 million and roughly 20 million visitors per year.

This time, a man's heart has stopped beating - not once but twice. The paramedics manage to bring him back to life before rushing him to resus. And there's always someone whose night ends badly in the back of an ambulance. In this case, a patient needs an emergency stop to empty her bladder. A man can't get out of his armchair and has severe pain in his knee. And a patient has extreme fatigue and abdominal pain after being unable to go to the loo. The hospital has one of the busiest A&amp;E departments in Britain - a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day. This episode explores the ingenious techniques the medical staff use to communicate complex information to patients. Forty-nine-year-old Nasly is brought into A&amp;E with DKA, a life-threatening complication of diabetes. Her son Felipe is by her side and discusses Nasly's struggle as a single mother in Colombia, and her eventual move to London in search of a better life. Charlie, who's 72, has severe chest and back pains. His complicated medical history is a challenge. Charlie's daughter Louise describes becoming a mum at 17, and how Charlie helped her when she was most in need. <title lang="en">999: On the Front Line</title>
<desc>Filmed during autumn and winter months as pressure on the NHS ramps up, we follow the West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics on a typical 12-hour shift, and see what life is really like on the front line through the eyes on the people at the sharp end. This time, paramedics are called to a man under arrest. He's outside in the street and has hit his head, and the police want to make sure he's well enough to be taken to the station. And: mixing household cleaning products must be done carefully otherwise toxic gases can be released. One man found this out the hard way when he inhaled fumes, leaving his throat feeling like razor blades. A mum calls 999 when her six-year-old son has a seizure. It's a category one emergency: the highest priority. A nurse calls 999 when she finds her patient in bed with a fever and having difficulty breathing. The paramedics suspect that he may have fractured a rib. And a woman is suspected of having a stroke. She's transported to hospital but as they arrive, her condition deteriorates.
