Doctors are concerned and decide to give Robert strong medication that will stop his heart for a few seconds and should restore his normal rate. Robert, a talented and keen rugby player, may need a pacemaker fitting and faces an operation in later life. It's a scary thought for his dad Marcus. Mark, who's 32, has fallen 30 feet from scaffolding outside his house while doing DIY. He's conscious, but there's concern that he may have damaged his spine and sustained internal injuries, so he's sent for a CT scan. Mark's mum and dad rush to be with him. Dad Danny is close to his sons after losing his own father when he was 14. Meanwhile, 74-year-old Christine arrives in A&E after an accident in her garden. She fell just five feet, but landed awkwardly on her face and has nasty facial injuries. Her husband Mike is by her side. It's her second fall in a year and he's worried. She was trying to climb in through a second-floor window when she lost her balance and fell 20 feet onto concrete, landing on her back. She's sent for an urgent CT scan and doctors discover an unstable fracture in her back that could damage her spinal cord permanently, leaving her legs paralysed, if she moves too much. Forty-year-old betting shop owner Les is rushed to St George's after losing control of his Land Rover on a country road on his way to work. Les has lacerations on his head which will need to be treated with emergency surgery, and also lead the medical team to worry about underlying head or neck injuries. Les's dad Michael has driven in from Surrey, where he lives with Les and another son. Plumber Cambelle, who's 21, has come to A&E with her mum Michelle and girlfriend Julie. She has an infected cyst on her bottom that could require surgery. When Cambelle was 13, Michelle was very ill and Cambelle had to look after her. Cambelle's sent to a ward for a strong dose of antibiotics and further assessment. She can't wait to settle down with Julie and have her own south London family. Meanwhile, 67-year-old retired doctor Patrick is brought to A&E after falling from his horse and being dragged 40 metres. He lay undiscovered for over two hours with a badly broken leg and his helmet smashed into three pieces. 'Patrick is somebody that keeps his emotions under lock and key,' says his wife Tracey. 'He's a typical older man that likes to keep those emotions in check.' While he's treated, Scott talks about being scared when he was sectioned and diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teenager: 'Nowadays I find it simple to deal with without too much stress. A man is finding it hard to communicate and his face is drooped on the right-hand side; all tell-tale signs of a possible stroke. The family of a baby with a complex medical history ring for help when his heart begins beating extremely fast. On the same day shift, a woman is found on the floor with a high temperature, high heart rate and high blood pressure. She's ticking many of the boxes for sepsis, and an end-of-life patient needs treatment in hospital.
