<desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series filmed around the clock at St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of the world's busiest and most advanced A&amp;E departments. This episode features patients who believe in keeping their chin up and carrying on, no matter what life throws at them. Professional actor Dudley, who's 68, has come to A&amp;E after breaking his shoulder in a fall while rushing to catch a train. Dudley may need surgery, but he's got a performance tonight and the show must go on. But during his treatment doctors think there might be something seriously wrong. Barbara, who's 82, and her 80-year-old husband Clarence are brought to St George's after being knocked over by a motorbike while crossing the road. Doctors are most worried about Barbara, who arrives by helicopter with a head wound and a badly broken leg. Paramedics bring in a man who's collapsed after taking drugs. Doctors need to discover what drugs he's taken before deciding how to treat him, while the police want to question him once the effects of the drugs have worn off. Meanwhile, 88-year-old Isabel has a swollen leg. She talks about her failed marriage to a much younger man when she was 50. So, when he and his wife Amy set out to build a giant new home on their 16-acre plot in Lincolnshire, he gives himself just one year to do it. The big problem is that this is no ordinary build - it's five circular buildings made up of interlocking timber cylinders linked by raised wooden walkways that hang over a fishing lake. <desc>Alice Roberts embarks on her most ambitious journey to date in search of the Roman Empire. Going by train, she travels 1300 miles through Italy, France and Spain to discover the origins and secrets of Rome's success.

Alice heads seven miles south of Naples to Herculaneum, a town that, like Pompeii, was buried in volcanic ash in 79 CE. Among Herculaneum's preserved glories, Alice braves the city's hand-dug tunnels in search of priceless scrolls. In Capua, a town famed for its Roman amphitheatre, Alice explores a multitude of Roman relics, including a temple dedicated to the underground cult who worshipped Mithras. In Capua's giant amphitheatre, second in size only to Rome's Colosseum, gladiators battled wild creatures from the farthest corners of the empire, including lions and tigers. There's also time to handle the world's most famous sword. Exec Prod: Steve Havers; Series Dir: Paul Crompton; Prod Co: Spark Media

    <title lang="en">24 Hours in Police Custody: The Devil's Chain</title>
<desc>Part of True Crime on Channel 4. The UK's biggest and most successful true crime documentary series brings us this compelling special. The Devil's Chain is the gripping inside story of a brutal premeditated knife and gun attack on the doorstep of a man's house, where the police fight against the odds to identify those responsible. A group of attackers have used the cover of darkness to approach the man outside his house. They shoot him three times and hack at him with a machete before fleeing the scene and burning their getaway car. Remarkably, the target of the attack has survived. Detectives from Bedfordshire Police's Major Crime Unit launch an attempted murder investigation. But there are no witnesses, the victim is in hospital unable to talk to them, and his family are terrified. With little evidence to go on, police hope that a bulky gold chain with a Tasmanian devil will prove a vital clue to what lay behind the crime and who's responsible. Featuring unprecedented access to a live investigation, cameras follow every twist and turn as detectives decide to launch a series of armed raids to arrest potential suspects. This is real-life drama where the facts are more compelling than even the best crime fiction. <title lang="en">24 Hours in A&amp;e</title>
<desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series filmed around the clock at St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of the world's busiest and most advanced A&amp;E departments. This episode features patients who fell in love with their partners at first sight. Publican Tony badly burnt his legs when his barbecue gas cylinder exploded. He was only wearing boxer shorts at the time and is in a lot of pain. Tony's partner Emma tries to cheer him up. They met in a supermarket. Tony was immediately smitten, but it took him two years to win over Emma. War veteran Henry, who's 93, is rushed to St George's with severe breathing difficulties. Henry and his wife Audrey have been married for nearly 70 years. They met in Northumberland in the 1930s and married without her parents' permission. Henry flew in the Fleet Air Arm and fought in the Second World War. But as it becomes clear that Henry has had a heart attack, Audrey has to accept that her husband won't be around forever. Meanwhile, 61-year-old builder Bill fell from his shed while cutting back trees in his garden. He was knocked unconscious and has pain in his right shoulder and lack of feeling in his hands. His CT scan reveals that Bill has broken his neck in three places and he may need surgery to avoid damage to his spinal cord. Bill's wife Alison and mother-in-law Barbara are on hand to lift his spirits. Alison talks about how Bill helped her get over a previous difficult relationship.
