<desc>Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer catch up with two sets of house-hunters who needed room to grow. In 2019, first-time buyers Becky and Adam had saved hard, had a 15% deposit, and were looking for their first family home in Essex. They were keen to take on a project, and Phil found them a stunning house with real renovation potential in Tollesbury, but it would stretch their budget if they wanted to buy it and have money to do it up. A tense negotiation lay ahead - and Phil worked his magic. Four years later, he discovers that the couple have certainly grown into the family space they originally sought. This year, baby Amara was born - on top of which they got married and even got themselves a dog and a cat! They've also kept themselves busy taking three years to do an extensive renovation, 90% of which they've done themselves. Although the whole house has had a serious makeover, the kitchen-diner was by far the biggest project. They removed the load-bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room to make a larger open-plan family space and installed a stunning new kitchen with bi-fold doors out to the large garden. Becky and Adam credit Phil with finding and securing a property they thought was out of reach, and they're keen to see what he thinks of the now unrecognisable house. And back in 2021, Kinga and Dave also wanted more space. To find it, they were moving from their London rental to Leeds to be closer to family, hoping to find a proper house with a garden for two-year-old daughter Lily to play in. Phil showed them a house in Moortown, very similar to one they'd loved and lost out on that really tugged at their heartstrings. He didn't want them to lose out again and was soon able to give them the news that they had their new home. It prompted an emotional response and the start of a wonderful journey. Two years later, we're back to find some serious changes. Lily now has a little brother, six-month-old Teddy. As well as being busy expanding their brood, somehow Kinga and Dave have found the time to completely overhaul the property - knocking through from the kitchen-diner to the living room to create a lovely open-plan family space that they can all enjoy together.
