<desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series that follows patients who are treated in the same 24-hour period at St George's in south west London. The hospital has one of the busiest A&E departments in Britain, which is under more pressure than ever. It's a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day. Xintong, who's 28, is rushed to A&E after being flung from a go-kart at speed. Doctors are concerned that there may be damage to her spine and they send her for urgent CT scans. As the medical team assess her injuries, her fiancé Deon explains how Xintong was raised in China and how their relationship survived the distance between them when she returned home from studying in London. Gary, who's 58, has come to St George's after trapping his finger between two shopping trolleys, causing it to swell enormously. He is treated by Ali who, after 37 years as a nurse, has a story of her own to tell. <desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series that follows patients who are treated in the same 24-hour period at St George's in south west London. This episode features stories of human compassion and kindness in challenging circumstances and from unexpected sources. Jeremy, who's 71, arrives at St George's in an air ambulance after crashing his bicycle at speed, and a head injury is suspected. Jeremy's sons Ollie and Alex describe their father's unwillingness to grow old and the importance of a strong family unit in the face of unbearable pain and loss. Allen, who's 82, has injured his chest after a dizzy spell caused him to fall down 13 steps. As his son Graham waits nervously for doctors to assess Allen's injuries, Graham describes his dad's strength and resilience in carrying the family through dark times, and how precious the bond between father and son can be. In urgent care, café worker Amy comes to the rescue of complete stranger James, who smashed a bottle of wine into his arm while skateboarding, and an unlikely friendship develops. Alex, who's 77, has been rushed to St George's with a suspected stroke, having woken up unable to speak or move the left-hand side of her body. The specialist stroke team decide to give her a powerful clot-busting drug in an attempt to reverse the damage to her brain. Her husband Paul sits nervously at her bedside as they wait to see if the drug will bring back her speech and movement. Meanwhile, 66-year-old Steven is in majors with severe stomach cramps. As doctors examine him and take bloods to determine the cause, Steven reveals how his parents' care during a childhood illness left him with a lifelong gratitude for their devotion towards him. When they became elderly, he was determined to return the favour. And 16-year-old Aaliyah is in paediatric A&E after her fingernail was badly damaged in a fight. <desc>We follow the West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic crews over a 12-hour shift, filmed in spring 2021, as the nation emerges from the third lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic and at a time when the service has never been busier. Based at four ambulance hubs across the region, this series features some familiar faces as well as some brand-new crews responding to over 4000 calls a day, from stabbings and seizures to car crashes and assaults. In this episode, a motorcyclist collides with a deer. Luckily for the patient, an orthopaedic surgeon stops to help. A woman driving to work is forced to pull over and call 999 after experiencing heart palpitations. A young man is constantly being sick and needs to go to hospital. A bike ride ends with a bruised bottom, the likes of which the paramedics have never seen before. And after seven weeks with an infection, an asthma patient is still struggling to breathe.
