    <title lang="en">24 Hours in A&amp;e</title>
<desc>The RTS award-winning series that follows patients treated in the same 24-hour period at St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of the busiest A&amp;E departments in Britain, and is under more pressure than ever. It's a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day. Lewis, who's 18, has come off a motorbike and collided with two cars. He's taken immediately for a full body CT scan as doctors are concerned about the extent of the injuries to his pelvis, arm and head. Lewis's mum, Vanessa, explains how when Lewis was a youngster he always kept them on their toes, but as he got older she began to suspect there might be a reason for his behaviour. She was relieved when Lewis was diagnosed with ADHD as a teenager and his close bond with his uncle helped him through his adolescent years. But when his uncle died, Lewis took it very badly. His brother, James, recalls how Lewis dealt with his uncle's death: 'Lewis's way was to release... in speed and anger. Constantly being fast, flying around estates on motorbikes and in cars... This is probably the ADHD and autism in him where he doesn't quite realise what is right and wrong.' Sam, who's 27, fainted and cut his lip while smoking a Cuban cigar at a barbecue. As doctors wait for X-ray results, Sam talks about his carefree childhood in Dorset and how his 'Peter Pan' approach to life means he's sometimes struggled with the responsibilities of becoming an adult. <desc>Head teacher Emma, who's 47, arrives in resus having been in a collision with a bus while cycling home from work. As Emma arrives, her husband Mick reflects on being informed what had happened: 'They viewed the accident as potentially life threatening.' As Emma is examined she appears very confused, constantly asking what happened. Mick becomes increasingly concerned. Anaesthetic nurse Marjory discusses how her memory loss could be a symptom of something more severe: 'The concern is that the confusion could be as a result of bleeding or swelling in the brain.' Doctors rush Emma for emergency CT scans while Mick waits in the relatives' room. When Mick sees his wife for the first time after her scan, he quickly realises the full extent of her injuries. Meanwhile, 33-year-old Josh has come to St George's with severe back pain. He is accompanied by his husband Isaac, who tries to comfort him and reassure him that he will be OK. And 87-year-old Pamela has come to A&amp;E with her granddaughter Cleo. They are concerned that she may have a blood clot in her leg. Cleo reflects on their close bond: 'We are really similar; I think that's why we get along so well.' Doctors examine her leg and we hear how Pamela grew up in London during the blitz. <desc>Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer help homeowners decide whether to spruce up or sell. As priorities change and our wallets show the strain, more of us are thinking differently about how and where we live, but that doesn't always mean that we feel the same as our partners do. So, for people who can't agree whether the right home for them is the one they're in or just a move away, it's time for Kirstie and Phil to step in. Kirstie catches up with Catherine and Nigel, who were at a loss over what to do with their remote family home in Larne. Catherine wanted out of their three-bed bungalow, with its disjointed layout, small rooms and isolated location. But Nigel - despite not wanting to buy the property in the first place - had fallen in love with their big garden and stunning views. While Phil whisked them off to see some fantastic and very affordable houses, including one with a plot fit for all the family and the cherished chickens, Kirstie came up with an ingenious plan to repurpose an unloved and underused space. It was too close to call who would come out victorious. Four years on, Kirstie finds out whether the couple stuck to their decision... It's a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day. This episode of RTS award-winning 24 Hours in A&amp;E focuses on the importance of having family. Mike, who's 79, collapsed in the street while walking his dog, Louie. His daughter Emma was driving along the same street when she saw Louie, then realised it was her father who had collapsed. Doctors give Mike medication to try and stabilise his very high heart rate. Meanwhile, his wife Rita talks about how important he is to her. Chartered surveyor Andrew, who's 53, tripped on a paving slab on his way to work and has a suspected dislocated shoulder. His daughter Hannah is surprised that such an innocuous accident brought him to A&amp;E: 'the amount of miles he sails, his speedboats, he does all this crazy stuff, and we ended up in A&amp;E with him because he tripped on a paving slab.' Doctors are concerned that Andrew has numbness in his arm and little finger so they send him for a CT scan. Nine-year-old Callum has pushed a piece of a plastic toy down his ear. When he was a toddler, Callum was diagnosed with autism. His mum Kelly says: 'as your first child, you start thinking "Oh, did I do something wrong in pregnancy? Did I cause that?" I mean after all he was in my body, I grew him.' As doctors attempt to retrieve the plastic from Callum's ear, Kelly talks about how much Callum and his sister Annie mean to her. <desc>The series that follows patients at St George's hospital, where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day. This shocking episode follows three women who are stabbed in broad daylight in a random attack at a supermarket car park in Surrey. Jean, who's 67, had gone to Sainsbury's to get macaroni cheese for her grandson and was stabbed in the back while she was carrying shopping to her car. Doctors are worried that the wound may have hit a vital organ or a major vessel and she's sent for urgent CT scans. Meanwhile, her daughter Clair recalls growing up in her mum's pub in Fulham: 'I remember a couple of guys came in with machetes yelling and shouting and she gave them a jolly good talking to... she's always been feisty... she can throw someone on the floor if she needs to.' Rani, who's 71, was stabbed twice in the back while she was waiting for a bus. Rani's daughter Soraya was at work when she received a call from a police officer. CT scans reveal that Rani has a lot of blood around her kidney. Janet, who's 62, was stabbed three times. A passer-by managed to stem the bleeding until an ambulance got to the scene. As doctors send Janet for a CT scan, her son Alex and ex-husband Mustafa are making their way to hospital. Mustafa recalls how he first met Janet in 1977 when he collected glasses from her table at a pub he was working in and knew he was going to marry her as soon as he saw her. When Janet's blood pressure drops to a critical level she's declared 'Code Red'.
