<desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series from St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of Britain's busiest and most advanced A&E departments. This episode focuses on patients and families whose good humour and positivity help them to cope in tough circumstances. Paula, who's 84, has been referred to St George's by her GP for urgent treatment. A routine blood test detected that Paula has a dangerously high level of potassium, or salts, in her blood, which can be toxic and cause cardiac arrest. Paula's had tough times, losing three husbands and one of her six children, and her mother also treated her very badly. But Paula has bounced back through her good humour. Derek, who's 74, is brought into A&E after having a suspected stroke. He had a sudden severe headache and his wife Mary noticed he was confused. A CT scan reveals that Derek's had a bad bleed in his brain. He's taken for emergency surgery. Mary is determined to help Derek recover. Meanwhile, 31-year-old firefighter Glenn has come in to A&E with his twin, Dean. Glenn has a suspected abscess in his throat. The brothers are inseparable and even finish each other's sentences. As the hosts show their three female guests to their rooms, Caroline, owner of The Dean Bed and Breakfast, isn't impressed that they don't live on site, while Sue from Seashells Guesthouse has hysterics when she uncovers some unexpected B&B equipment. The hosts try to impress their guests by taking them punting down the Cam, but Sue's attempt almost capsizes the group. Over dinner, the hosts get a further grilling about not living at their B&B from straight-talking American Nancy from The Old Court Guesthouse. Come morning, there are problems at Silverwood Lodge: the noisy road has caused sleepless nights, and one guest has no hot water. And the feedback prompts accusations of foul play from the hosts. After revealing that she allows dogs to sleep in the beds, no one knows quite what to expect, but on arrival, everyone is blown away by the doggy-themed exterior. The interior is equally memorable, with Paul and Flora finding themselves in the Cappuccino Room and Caroline in the Poppy Room. Unfortunately for Nancy, she finds hairs under the duvet in the Canine Room. Sue gives her guests a taste of Great Yarmouth beachside fun, including a horse and trap ride, and a bingo session. Over dinner, however, the mood darkens when Nancy brings up the controversial issue of dogs sleeping in the beds and Sue allowing smoking in the bedrooms. Dog-lover Sue checks into one of the converted prison cell rooms, but unfortunately she's claustrophobic. However, rogue underwear in the drawers and cobwebs on the curtains are touches that the guests aren't so keen on. Self-confessed eccentric Caroline offers her guests a jig accompanied by a bagpiper and, later, takes them to a re-enactment of the Battle of Prestonpans in gale-force winds. <desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series from St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of Britain's busiest and most advanced A&E departments. This episode focuses on strong women who find themselves in A&E on the same day with a wide range of problems. Becky, who's 59, is rushed to St George's after having a suspected stroke. The medics are concerned that Becky could have had a bleed on the brain and send her for a CT scan, which reveals a large blood clot. Her husband Ray talks about first meeting Becky when she was 11 and he was 13, falling in love and her passion for life. Nineteen-year-old Georgia is brought to A&E by ambulance with suspected spinal injuries. Georgia locked herself out of her flat after going out with friends. She was trying to climb in through a second-floor window when she lost her balance and fell 20 feet onto concrete, landing on her back. She's sent for an urgent CT scan and doctors discover an unstable fracture in her back that could damage her spinal cord permanently, leaving her legs paralysed, if she moves too much. Georgia's mum Anita talks about her fiery relationship with her daughter. Meanwhile, 88-year-old Edith has been brought to St George's after collapsing at home. She's given medication to lower her blood pressure. Doctors want to keep her under observation to try to establish the cause of her collapse and rule out any underlying injuries. <desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series from St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of Britain's busiest and most advanced A&E departments. This episode focuses on families whose strong bonds have been forged through the worst that life can throw at them. Forty-year-old betting shop owner Les is rushed to St George's after losing control of his Land Rover on a country road on his way to work. Les has lacerations on his head which will need to be treated with emergency surgery, and also lead the medical team to worry about underlying head or neck injuries. Les's dad Michael has driven in from Surrey, where he lives with Les and another son. Plumber Cambelle, who's 21, has come to A&E with her mum Michelle and girlfriend Julie. She has an infected cyst on her bottom that could require surgery. When Cambelle was 13, Michelle was very ill and Cambelle had to look after her. Cambelle's sent to a ward for a strong dose of antibiotics and further assessment. She can't wait to settle down with Julie and have her own south London family. Meanwhile, 67-year-old retired doctor Patrick is brought to A&E after falling from his horse and being dragged 40 metres. He lay undiscovered for over two hours with a badly broken leg and his helmet smashed into three pieces. 'Patrick is somebody that keeps his emotions under lock and key,' says his wife Tracey. 'He's a typical older man that likes to keep those emotions in check.' Series Prod/Dirs: John Douglas, Dominique Foster; Exec Prod: Hamo Forsyth; Prod Co: The Garden Productions
