    <title lang="en">24 Hours in A&amp;e</title>
<desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series filmed around the clock at St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of Britain's most advanced and busiest A&amp;E departments. In this episode, staff tackle one of their most dramatic and unusual emergencies while patients and their families face difficult questions of mortality. Sixty-year-old rail worker Alan is airlifted to the helipad at St George's after being hit by a high-speed train while working on the tracks. A CT scan reveals that Alan has suffered multiple fractures and loss of blood flow to his right arm. Without circulation he will lose his arm and the medical team try everything to save it, including complicated emergency surgery. As he waits for news, Alan's son Kevin talks about how he and his father became closer after his mum's death. Betty, who's 95, is brought in to St George's after experiencing breathing difficulties at home. But as she arrives at hospital, Betty loses consciousness. Doctors realise that she has had a serious heart attack, and her condition rapidly deteriorates. As Betty is treated, her son Alan talks about how she brought up two young children on her own after his father left. Meanwhile, 63-year-old retired engineer James was found at home after falling down stairs and has a nasty cut to his head and weakness in his arms. Doctors decide that the wound will have to be properly closed in surgery by a specialist team. <desc>Eleven-month-old Isabel is rushed to St George's hospital after having a seizure and becoming unconscious. Isabel's grandmother Debbie was babysitting her at the time. Isabel's parents Charlie and Catherine arrive at the hospital to find Isabel unconscious and ventilated due to the strong medication she's been given. 'It was a case of "What do we do now?",' says dad Charlie. 'And the doctors told us to talk to her. I just thought "Please don't let my girl be gone, she's so happy, she loves life so much".' Felix, who's 22, is brought to A&amp;E with a self-inflicted stab wound to his stomach. Felix stabbed himself with a six-inch knife after a night out with friends. Felix's friends Izzy and Olly visit him. Meanwhile, 68-year-old retired engineer Bill arrives at St George's by air ambulance after falling 15 feet from a ladder while cutting a leylandii hedge. Bill has suspected multiple fractures and difficulty breathing. His sister Margaret was next to him when he fell and called 999. 'He prides himself on doing everything himself: "Don't spend money on that, I can do it!",' says Margaret. Our camping critics are in for a shock on their penultimate stop when they arrive at Mynydd Derwydd, a wild camping site on the edge of Clocaenog Forest. With 250 acres of stunning scenery to explore, but next to no facilities, campsite owner Llyr tries to win them over with a bushcraft skills workshop, a lamb barbecue and a breakfast delivery of fresh farm produce. <desc>Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer are back in Phil's old stomping ground of Wandsworth in south London. It's city versus country for New Jersey-born Rachael and local lad Tim, who can't agree whether to settle in their 1930s semi or move somewhere more rural to bring up their two young children. Rachael longs for leafier pastures, like she had when she was growing up, but Tim would rather stay closer to his friends and family. Although they may seem to have the perfect four-bed family home, their fourth bedroom is small, and with two young children and both Tim and Rachael working from home, it's become a squeeze. Rachael's also had enough of their downstairs open-plan layout, with nowhere to hide from the noise, kitchen smells and kids' toys. Kirstie comes up with a canny plan that makes better use of all the available space inside and out, while Phil's determined to impress with three incredible properties that prove the grass is greener outside the M25. <desc>The RTS award-winning documentary series filmed around the clock at St George's hospital in south west London, which has one of Britain's most advanced and busiest A&amp;E departments. This episode focuses on freedom, independence and renewal. Tree surgeon David, who's 27, is airlifted to St George's after falling 40 feet from a tree. He hit several branches on the way down, landed head-first on concrete and was knocked unconscious for 10 minutes. Anne, who's 74, arrives at St George's with a sharp pain in her chest. Anne was sent to a convent boarding school when she was just three, but she rebelled and was expelled and put in an asylum at the age of 11. Anne was released from the asylum after 30 years and she's now making up for lost time. Taxi driver Mark, who's 51, has come to A&amp;E after lacerating his finger picking up some broken glass from the road.
