    <title lang="en">The Artifice Girl</title>
<desc>Franklin Ritch writes, directs and stars in his debut feature - a strikingly claustrophobic AI thriller about the virtues of having a virtual nine-year-old girl luring online predators from the shadows. Gareth (Ritch) has been hauled into a police station by two agents - Deena (Sinda Nichols) and Amos (David Girard). They want to know what he's been up to on the internet, with particular reference to nine-year-old Cherry (Tatum Matthews). It turns out that Cherry is an AI, created by Ritch with the intention of capturing online paedophiles. But Cherry is learning. She's becoming more and more life-like. And the question soon becomes: how soon will life-like become real? And if Cherry's sentience is as real as a flesh-and-blood person, what are her rights? Should she at some point consent to being a part of the operation?

    <title lang="en">Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon</title>
<desc>Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce and Lionel Atwill star in director Roy William Neill's Second World War spy adventure. Sherlock Holmes (Rathbone) smuggles the Swiss scientist Dr Franz Tobel (William Post Jr) from under the noses of the Gestapo and brings him to England. Tobel has invented a revolutionary bomb that could hand victory to whichever side has it. Tobel tells RAF Bomber Command that, to protect the bomb's secrets, he has split details of its manufacture and assembly between four fellow Swiss scientists. Unfortunately, Tobel is then abducted by Professor Moriarty (Atwill). Luckily, Tobel had the foresight to leave a note for Holmes, in pictographic code, naming the other scientists and giving their locations. And so Holmes, Dr Watson (Bruce) and Inspector Lestrade (Dennis Hoey) set out to stop the secret weapon falling into the hands of the Nazis. With Mary Gordon as Mrs Hudson.

    <title lang="en">Arthur Christmas</title>
<desc>Animated festive family fun. James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy and Jim Broadbent are among the stars providing the voices for Aardman Animations' second CGI feature. Having thoroughly modernised the family business, Steve Claus (Laurie) - with his huge, hi-tech, reindeer-free Christmas present delivery system, the S-1, and a vast army of elves - has finished another season's global gift distribution. Steve is especially looking forward to celebrating this year, as he expects to formally succeed his father, Santa (Broadbent). However, the mission has not been completed: one girl wasn't given her present. So Steve's younger brother Arthur (McAvoy) and the grumpy, long-retired Grandsanta (Nighy) decide to deliver her gift the old way, with a sleigh and flying reindeer. But they can't imagine the pandemonium their traditional gesture will cause.

    <title lang="en">Tooth Fairy</title>
<desc>Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson stars in Michael Lembeck's family fantasy comedy about a tough-guy sportsman who learns the hard way not to puncture a child's illusions. Derek Thompson (Johnson) is an ice hockey pro whose main tactic is flattening opponents - often depriving them of a tooth or two in the process. His aggression has earned him the nickname 'Tooth Fairy', but when he unsportingly tells his girlfriend's daughter that tooth fairies don't exist, the very real fairies decide to teach him a lesson. He's whipped away to Fairy Land, where he's sentenced to a week's community service as a tooth fairy. He sprouts wings, receives an outfit completely at odds with his macho image and is given a (reluctant) mentor (Stephen Merchant). As the comedic misunderstandings and slapstick errors mount, it's all too clear that Thompson isn't cut out for his new line of work. Also starring Ashley Judd, Seth McFarlane, Julie Andrews and Billy Crystal. Edited for violence.

    <title lang="en">The Kid Who Would Be King</title>
<desc>Family-friendly fantasy adventure from writer-director Joe Cornish. Alex (Louis Ashbourne Serkis), a 12-year-old boy at school in suburban London, finds himself on the wrong end of a pair of older bullies when he stands up for his best pal Bedders (Dean Chaumoo). When they chase him home one night after school, Alex takes shelter in a nearby building site. There, he finds a mysterious-looking sword stuck in some stone and manages to free it from its concrete prison. Sound familiar? It should, because he and Bedders soon discover that the sword in question is indeed King Arthur's Excalibur. They have great fun playing at being knights, until a strange new kid arrives at school and reveals that he's a de-aged Merlin (Angus Imrie). The legendary wizard informs the boys that by freeing Excalibur, they've awakened sinister sorceress Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson) who, in true evil witch fashion, is dead set on enslaving everyone in Britain for her own nefarious shenanigans. It seems the future of the country is in the hands of these very unlikely noblemen. Also starring Patrick Stewart as adult Merlin.

    <title lang="en">The Adjustment Bureau</title>
<desc>Matt Damon and Emily Blunt star in The Bourne Ultimatum screenwriter George Nolfi's directorial debut - a romance meets sci-fi thriller, based on a short story by Philip K Dick. David Norris (Damon) is a youthful congressman running for the Senate in New York, and things couldn't be going more smoothly for him, until he meets attractive dancer Elise Sellas (Blunt), and experiences an episode of public drunkenness. Meeting Sellas should spell happiness for him, as they hit it off immediately, but his attempts to develop the relationship are consistently thwarted. And his drunkenness was bad enough to spell the end of his political career, but however much he tries to walk away from high office, the more he seems destined for it. What he doesn't initially realise is that he is part of The Plan, overseen by the shadowy men of the Adjustment Bureau, who are determined to implement their grand design, whatever the costs. But, as Norris begins to slot the clues together, things start to get dangerous for him and his would-be love. Also starring John Slattery and Terence Stamp.

<title lang="en">Dawn of the Planet of the Apes</title>
<desc>Gary Oldman, Toby Kebbell and Andy Serkis star in Matt Reeves' (Cloverfield, Let Me In) epic motion-capture sci-fi action-adventure sequel. It's 10 years since the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Simian flu has decimated the human race and the apes have built a thriving civilisation in Muir Woods under the guidance of Caesar (Serkis). The two species live separate lives, until a group of human survivors from the wrecked remains of San Francisco stray into ape territory and disaster strikes. There are subsequent attempts at diplomacy, but peaceful co-existence seems unlikely given the presence on one side of Koba (Kebbell), a bonobo left physically and emotionally scarred by human experimentation, and the humans' militaristic leader Dreyfus (Oldman) on the other. And it's not long before both sides arm themselves against the potential untrustworthiness of the other. Peter Jackson's Weta Digital provides the visual effects.
