<desc>Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant star Stanley Donen's stylish Hitchcockian comedy-thriller. While skiing in the French Alps, unhappily married Reggie Lampert (Hepburn) meets suave fellow US holidaymaker Peter Joshua (Grant). When she arrives back in Paris, the police tell Reggie her husband has been murdered. Her shock is compounded by Hamilton Bartholomew (Walter Matthau), the US Embassy's CIA chief, who says her late husband was involved in a massive gold heist during World War II - and that three of his accomplices (James Coburn, George Kennedy and Ned Glass) are intent on getting their hands on the loot. Bartholomew accepts she's not aware of its location, but says when she does eventually find the gold she must hand it back to the government. After being visited separately by the threatening trio, Reggie gratefully accepts help from Peter Joshua, who's also now in Paris. But things are more dangerous and complex than they seem.

<desc>Andrew V McLaglen's poignant drama stars James Stewart as Charlie Anderson, a widower and wealthy Virginia farming patriarch trying to keep his family together and safe through the Civil War. The moving story of how Charlie deals with overwhelming tragedy - from the capture of his young son by the Confederate Army to his daughter's love for a Confederate soldier and the untimely deaths of his oldest son and daughter-in-law - was a great hit, demonstrated by the fact that the famous soliloquy Stewart delivered at Anderson's wife's graveside was released as a record. Also starring Doug McClure, Glenn Corbett, Patrick Wayne and Rosemary Forsyth.

    <title lang="en">Moonfall</title>
<desc>Writer and director Roland Emmerich loves a disaster. He did massive, landmark-destroying spaceships in Independence Day; a somewhat chilly New York in global-warming apocalypse The Day After Tomorrow; and blew up Woody Harrelson using a Mayan calendar and a supervolcano in 2012. This time it's the Moon that's going to cause the Earth's demise. It's veering off course, you see, and will hit us in about three weeks. But before then it will inevitably create havoc as Earth's gravity gets increasingly out of whack - tides will rise and people will bounce around like bingo balls in a tombola. What to do? Somewhat inevitably, NASA want to nuke it - presumably because that's what Bruce Willis did so heroically in Armageddon. Fortunately, there's three idiots willing to go into space to try to save the Earth. There's disgraced astronaut Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) - who says aliens were actually responsible for the incident during which he was disgraced. Then there's NASA VIP Jocinda Fowl (Halle Berry), the partner whose life Brian saved during the incident that disgraced him, but who doesn't believe him about the aliens bit. And lastly unqualified conspiracy theorist KC Houseman (John Bradley), who believes that the Moon is not a hunk of rock but rather some sort of megastructure. Together they board a shuttle and head off to save the Earth, leaving loved ones behind to keep us abreast of the effects that the falling natural satellite is having on Earth. Have to say, got a really bad feeling about all this... Also features Donald Sutherland as a venerable old NASA official tucked away in a basement.

    <title lang="en">Crime Scene Season: Public Enemies</title>
    <title lang="en">Public Enemies</title>
<desc>Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp as infamous bank robber John Dillinger; Marion Cotillard as Dillinger's sorta girl; and Christian Bale as the FBI agent trying to put him away - whether that's in prison or in the cold, dead ground. This is a hardboiled, pared-back true crime thriller. Chicago, 1933. Even though he's just got out of jail, Dillinger breaks straight back in, to free some willing associates - including Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) and Harry 'Pete' Pierpont (David Wenham). Yep, that's how much front the man's got. Once he's suitably ganged up, he gets to work on his true passions: robbing banks and acting like a full-on, untouchable Hollywood star. Will outlaw Dillinger be able to evade by-the-book Melvin Purvis (Bale) and the forces of the newly-formed FBI? Or will it all come to a sorry end in a climactic street-based pitched battle? Based on Public Enemies: America's Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34 by Bryan Burrough.

<desc>Michael Mann's acclaimed thriller boasts a wish list of leads, including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer and Jon Voight. The plot is simple: Pacino plays the cop on the trail of De Niro's gang of armed robbers. But it's the characterisations, the multi-layered plotting and the action scenes that stand out, in a film that famously builds to a definitive scene where De Niro and Pacino finally meet on-screen for the first time.
