    <title lang="en">Friends With Benefits</title>
<desc>Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis star in Easy A director Will Gluck's romcom, which takes the unusual approach of criticising its own genre. Dylan (Timberlake) and Jamie (Kunis) are young, successful professionals and good friends. They both distrust the romantic ideals peddled by Hollywood, and enjoy getting together to laugh at/hotly dispute the views espoused by those mainstream romantic comedies. But they do fancy each other, so they agree to add sex to their relationship, while explicitly swearing - upon a Bible app, no less - not to allow romance to creep in and spoil things. But can good friends sleep together and overcome any impulse to form a conventional relationship?

    <title lang="en">How Green Was My Valley</title>
<desc>Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara and Roddy McDowall star in John Ford's multi-Oscar-winning period drama set in the south Wales valleys of the 19th century. All the men of the Morgan family toil in dangerous conditions down in the mines. However, young Huw Morgan's (McDowall) parents, Gwilym (Donald Crisp) and Beth (Sara Allgood), are determined that their bright lad get a good education and become something more than a miner. The Morgans are a warm, loving family, but their solidarity is set to be challenged when Huw's sister Angharad (O'Hara) falls in love with the new preacher, Mr Gruffyd (Pidgeon), causing a scandal; a mining strike drives deep divisions within the family; and even Huw's independent ambitions cause friction. The movie beat Citizen Kane to the Academy Award for Best Picture and also picked up four other Oscars: John Ford won Best Director, Donald Crisp was awarded Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Arthur C Miller picked up Best Cinematography, and it also won a Best Art Direction award.

    <title lang="en">Mary, Queen of Scots</title>
<desc>Oscar-nominated Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson star in Charles Jarrott's historical drama about the tussle for power in Tudor Britain. When young Catholic Mary Stuart (Redgrave) arrives back in Scotland after the death of her husband, French monarch Francis II, she finds her nation torn between Catholicism and Protestantism, and her own right to rule undermined from without and within. Mary's Protestant half-brother James Stewart (Patrick McGoohan) intends to use her as a figurehead while he runs the country in her name. Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth I (Jackson) is sensitive to her cousin's claim to the English throne and dispatches two suitors, the Protestant Robert Dudley (Daniel Massey) and the Catholic Lord Darnley (Timothy Dalton), north of the border, hoping romantic intrigue will keep Mary from pursuing any regal ambitions outside of Scotland. And it works. But Mary's choice unwittingly places her on course to disaster. Co-starring Ian Holm, Nigel Davenport and Trevor Howard.

<desc>Henry Fonda, Anthony Quinn and Richard Widmark star in Edward Dmytryk's western. Gunfighter Clay Blaisedell (Fonday) is hired by the citizens of the small Utah mining town of Warlock to act as their unofficial marshal after all previous appointees have proved incapable of saving the townsfolk from the murderous rampages of a local gang. Blaisedell and his sidekick Tom Morgan (Anthony Quinn) successfully impose their idea of law and order on the town, causing Johnny Gannon (Richard Widmark) to defect from the 'baddies' to join them. But Lily Dollar (Dorothy Malone) is on her way to Warlock, and her vendetta against Morgan could destroy the town's fragile peace. The cast also features DeForest Kelley, who played Bones in Star Trek.

    <title lang="en">Deep Impact</title>
<desc>Elijah Wood and Morgan Freeman are among the survivors of a meteorite strike that causes the oceans to rise and tsunamis to engulf the land in this premillennial sci-fi disaster movie. Things seem pretty bleak at the start of Deep Impact. A comet the size of Mount Everest is headed for Earth. The result? An ELE, or Extinction Level Event. Reporter Jenny Lerner (Téa Leoni) makes a bit of a faux pas by calling out a politician for resigning because of an affair with a woman named Ellie, but when she learns that it was in fact due to the ELE she can at least report on that. It turns out that there is a plan to avert this catastrophe. President Beck (Freeman) is about to announce a US-Russian collaboration to land on the comet and blow it apart with nukes, meaning any impact will be lessened... although still serious enough for some dramatic scenes of destruction. The crew of the ship being sent to the comet includes un-retired and wonderfully named Spurgeon Tanner (which would also be a good name for a fish beautician), who is ideal for the job because he once landed on the moon. Also in the mix of people we might want to survive... or perhaps not... are Leo Biederman (Wood), the young amateur astronomer who discovered the comet, and Leoni's father Jason Lerner (Maximilian Schell), who she hates for leaving her mother Robin (Vanessa Redgrave) for a younger woman. A hard rain's gonna fall, but on who will it land the hardest?

<desc>Revenge thriller from director Pierre Morel (Taken), starring Jennifer Garner as a mum-turned-vigilante who sets out on a one-woman vengeance mission after her husband and daughter are killed. LA banker Riley (Garner) is struggling to make ends meet along with her husband Chris (Jeff Hephner). When one of Chris's friends asks him to take part in a lucrative robbery of Diego Garcia (Juan Pablo Raba), the head of a gigantic drugs empire, he's tempted, but decides against it. However, when Garcia uncovers the plan, he wrongly thinks Chris was one of the orchestrators, and orders his minions to kill him. On a family day out to a carnival, Chris, Riley and their 10-year-old daughter Carly (Cailey Fleming) are brutally gunned down. Riley survives her wounds, but Chris and Carly aren't so lucky. With her life in tatters, Riley is tipped over the edge when the court case against Garcia and his gunmen is dismissed. Instead, it's down to her to deliver a very different brand of justice.

<desc>Mark Steven Johnson's superhero-fantasy morality play stars Ben Affleck as Matt Murdock, a guilt-wracked, blind vigilante with a penchant for red leather, and Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios, another crime-fighter who's equally keen on figure-hugging leather, although she prefers it in black. When he was a child, Murdock was blinded in an accident involving toxic waste, which also enhanced his other senses. The incident was linked to his discovery that his father was involved with the Mob. Now, the adult Murdock, spurred partly by guilt over his role in his father's death, has dedicated his life to fighting crime and protecting the innocent. By day, he's a defence lawyer, but by night he dispenses summary justice to criminals who've escaped the courts. Things get complicated when he falls in love with Elektra, who, as well as being a vigilante, is the daughter of a man with connections to New York crime boss Wilson 'Kingpin' Fisk (Michael Clarke Duncan). And when Daredevil is framed for the murder of her father, Elektra swears vengeance on the masked crime-fighter (not realising that he's her lover). Meanwhile, they're both in mortal danger from the Kingpin's merciless Irish assassin Bullseye (Colin Farrell).
