    <title lang="en">Robot Dreams</title>
<desc>Writer and director Pablo Berger's debut animation is the endearing - and almost dialogue free - tale of a lonely dog who builds a robot friend and a relationship that helps them unlock the joys of 1980s New York City. Based on the graphic novel by Sara Varon. Dog sits in an empty apartment playing Pong. Outside the Big Apple makes itself known through blaring horns, flickering neon and happy couples glimpsed in apartment windows sharing laughter. Dog microwaves a frozen dinner for one and switches on the telly, dejectedly. But then Dog sees an advert for mail-order robot companions. Ding - lightbulb. A large bull with a nose ring delivers the package containing Dog's new friend and soon Dog and Robot are hitting the vibrant streets to embrace all that NYC has to offer. It's such a joy until they go to Coney Island and Robot dives naively into the sea. Metal and circuitry don't take kindly to being immersed in salt water. Robot seizes up and Dog can't move the heavy body. So what now?

<desc>Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts star in Roger Michell's BAFTA-winning and hugely popular comedy romance, scripted by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral). Anna Scott (Roberts) is the most famous actress in the world. William Thacker (Grant) runs a struggling second-hand bookshop in Notting Hill. After colliding in the street they begin a relationship, which is soon fraught with complications as the tabloid press hound Anna, and William must summon all his charm, ingenuity and patience if there is to be a happy ending. <title lang="en">Groundhog Day</title>
<desc>This billing feels very familiar. Director Harold Ramis makes déjà vu a reality and spices it with a redemptive quality in the classic comedy that spawned a phrase - and many movies with a similar premise - starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell. Weatherman Phil (Murray) is dispatched to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to cover the Groundhog Day festival. The groundhog - which is also called Phil - awakes from hibernation to foretell how much longer winter will last. If the groundhog sees its own shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. Phil the weatherman is - perhaps justifiably - cynical about this... dryly cynical in the way that only the great Bill Murray can be. But the fates have decided they no longer like Phil the weatherman's attitude. So they condemn him to relive the same day over and over until he bucks his blumin' ideas up. And he must use this time wisely, learning to treat others - including producer Rita (MacDowell), camera operator Larry (Chris Elliott) and even annoying passerby Ned (Stephen Tobolowsky) - with more respect. Otherwise, Groundhog Day will never end.

    <title lang="en">The Pope's Exorcist</title>
<desc>Supernatural horror from director Julius Avery (Overlord), very loosely based on the memoirs of the Italian Catholic priest and 'real life exorcist' Father Gabriele Amorth. Father Gabriel claimed he'd vanquished tens of thousands of demons in his sixty-year career. Russell Crowe plays him as a swashbuckling eccentric and ecclesiastical renegade who bimbles around Rome on a Lambretta and speaks with an accent we'll call 'difficult to place'. Following a controversial incident with a pig, he's dispatched by Pope Franco Nero to a village in Spain to assess the case of a young boy receiving unwelcome attention from the demon Asmodeus. But he ends up in the demon's sights himself and uncovers a dark history reaching back to the days of the Spanish Inquisition. Nobody expects this. Daniel Zovatto co-stars as Father Gabriele's Spanish sidekick Father Thomas Esquibel, and Ralph Ineson is the voice of Asmodeus. Not to be confused with The Exorcism, Crowe's other exorcist film from 2024, but a sequel to this one is also in development. If it isn't called Rock Me Asmodeus they'll be missing a trick.
