Writer and director Ben Wheatley's deep-in-the-woods horror was written during the first Covid lockdown and filmed as the pandemic lumbered on. The film itself is set during a pandemic and follows Dr Martin Lowery (Joel Fry) and park ranger Alma (Ellora Torchia) as they venture into England's forests to search for Lowery's missing colleague Dr Olivia Wendle (Hayley Squires), who has a theory that all plant-life is connected in a vast underground network through which it can communicate - sentient mycelium. But all does not go according to plan on the expedition when Alma and Martin are attacked in the dead of night. They awake to find their radio destroyed, and their shoes missing. Then Martin gets a bad cut on his foot and Alma notices that they're being watched. But by who? Well it's Reece Shearsmith playing a man called Zach. Zach's just living in the woods. He seems quite helpful. He offers shoes and even sews up Martin's foot, after a fashion. But then he gives them a drink of his own concoction and gets out an acoustic guitar.
