    <title lang="en">Ravenous</title>
<desc>Dark off-menu comedy horror starring Guy Pearce and Robert Carlyle. After accidentally drinking human blood during a battle, American officer John Boyd (Pearce) gains superhuman strength and captures a Mexican outpost. But his commanding officer sees through the apparent heroism to the coward lurking beneath and banishes him to godforsaken California... and it's 1840 so that's not a good thing. There he meets a ragtag band of men, including Colonel Hart (Jeffrey Jones), Private Cleaves (David Arquette), Private Toffler (Jeremy Davies) and Private Reich (Neal McDonough). Life is dull and time is filled with the occasional fine bourbon and - if Hart doesn't notice - peyote and women. But one night a half dead man stumbles into their camp. This is Colqhoun (Carlyle) and his story is one of deprivation and starvation. To survive, the group he was with had to eat their shoes and their belts and - once there was nothing left - one of their number finally died. Colqhoun was out innocently gathering wood when he came back to find his companions eating the dead man's legs. They scoffed down that whole man in just a week. But their appetites changed. They became... ravenous. And the killing and the eating began in earnest. Colqhoun thinks there may have been one survivor so our heroes set out to save her. And Colqhoun - having made a remarkable recovery - is keen to accompany them. But then the licking starts... Directed by Antonia Bird and featuring a score by Damon Albarn.

<desc>The first talkie version of the much-filmed Harold Bell Wright novel is directed by Henry Hathaway and stars John Wayne in his first Technicolor movie. In the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, Young Matt Matthews (Wayne) blames his long-absent father for his mother's death and has sworn to kill him should their paths ever cross. The rest of the mountain community seem to have been affected by Young Matt's dark emotions, and rivalries and animosities are rife. Into this tense environment steps a mysterious stranger (Harry Carey) whose acts of kindness begin to heal the troubled populace. But who is he and why does he want to live among them? Also starring Betty Field.

<desc>Richard Basehart stars in Samuel Fuller's Korean War drama about men under the stress of battle. When a US division in Korea is forced to retreat, a platoon is left behind to fight a dangerous rearguard action. Corporal Denno (Basehart), a sensitive, intellectual man who is happier taking orders than taking responsibility, realizes he will have to assume command of the men if his superiors are killed - and is terrified at the prospect. But, after building a roadblock, setting up gun positions and laying a minefield, the men inevitably come under fire; and, during the exchange, Denno's fears start to come true. Thus it seems ever more likely that it will be down to Denno to get the remainder of the platoon out of the icy Korean mountains alive. The film also features the uncredited big-screen debut of one James Dean.

    <title lang="en">Robin and Marian</title>
<desc>Richard Lester directs a unique reimagining of the legendary outlaw tale, starring Oscar-winners Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn. 20 years ago, Robin Hood (Connery) left Sherwood Forest and went off to fight in the Crusades with Richard the Lionheart (Richard Harris). But now, Richard is dead. And Robin returns home, with his ever-faithful companion, Little John (Nicol Williamson) by his side. His first task now he's back in Sherwood Forest? To reignite his romance with Maid Marian (Hepburn). Only, Marian's not too thrilled to see him. She retreated to a nunnery when Robin waltzed off to war. Things get worse when the Sheriff of Nottingham (Robert Shaw) orders Marian to be arrested under religious grounds, sparking his infamous feud with Robin. And you simply can't have this iconic story without an epic climactic showdown.

    <title lang="en">Venom: Let There Be Carnage</title>
<desc>Veteran motion-capture actor Andy Serkis directs Tom Hardy in the return of the gnarly symbiote antihero Venom, for another romp through the trials and tribulations of having a ravenous alien living inside your body. The Carnage of the title is both another symbiote and the inevitable result of the CGI showdown that they'll surely have with Venom at the film's climax. Carnage is created when Eddie Brock/Venom (Hardy) accidentally transfers his alien-infected blood to serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) - oops. Using his new powers, Kasady/Carnage escapes execution and channels all his energy into tracking down Eddie/Venom for a dust up. Oh, and he also wants to get back with his ex, Frances/Shriek (Naomie Harris), whose scream can kill. Bless. Also starring Michelle Williams as Brock's girlfriend Anne. And the excellent Stephen Graham as a gobsmacked detective.

    <title lang="xx">Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins</title>
<desc>Frantic martial arts action providing an origin story for a fan-favourite character from the G.I. Joe toy line. Snake Eyes (Henry Golding) is a brooding cage fighter who accepts a contract to assassinate Tommy (Andrew Koji) but opts to save his life instead. The grateful Tommy brings Snake Eyes into the Arashikage clan, an ancient ninja society given to putting its initiates through punishing trials like confronting past traumas and battling giant CGI snakes. Secretly, however, Snake Eyes is still working for Yakuza boss Kenta (Takehiro Hira), who's plotting his own takeover of the Arashikage dynasty, intending to steal a magic jewel that bestows fiery superpowers. But Snake Eyes also has his own agenda dating back to his father's murder 20 years earlier, meaning, as is the way of these things, that there's much ado about honour and vengeance. And hyper-kinetic fights, chase scenes and stuff blowing up. With Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving, Peter Mensah and The Raid's Iko Uwais. Robert Schwenke (who made the 2010 Bruce Willis action-comedy Red) is the director bringing stylish order to the neon-lit, rain-soaked chaos.
