Writer and director Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre's heartfelt drama stars Matthias Schoenaerts as a violent convict who gets a chance at rehabilitation through a programme training wild mustangs. Roman (Schoenaerts) has been in prison for 12 years. At the start of the movie, he is released from solitary confinement. By his own admittance, he is not good with people. So, he's a bit miffed when the prison therapist (Connie Britton) places him in a rehab programme that aims to train some of the thousands of wild mustangs that roam the States. Perhaps he imagines having to join in with a load of campfire bonhomie, like in City Slickers or Blazing Saddles. But really it makes perfect sense to match up a powerful, wild animal and a horse. Kidding. The question is: who will be tamed? Will the man master his rage as he attempts to break the mustang? And will he be able to form a relationship with his estranged, pregnant teenage daughter Martha (Gideon Adlon) as a result? A wild ride with a civilised ending... perhaps.
