In 2011, 21-year-old Gagandip Singh was killed by his friend Harinder 'Ravi' Shoker. The media called it the 'honeytrap murder' as the case gained national interest for the part played by Gagandip's friend Mundill Mahil, with whom Gagandip had tried to pursue a romantic relationship. Gagandip, a talented young TV entrepreneur and Sikh community influencer, turned up unannounced one night to Mundill's Brighton student house. Gagandip attempted to sexually assault Mundill, who confided her upset to Ravi, who was also in love with Mundill. Together they hatched a plan to lure Gagandip back to the student house, where he would be 'taught a lesson', but that plan triggered a series of shocking events that ultimately lead to Gagandip being burned alive. At trial Mundill was characterised as a 'manipulative', 'ruthless' young woman, the 'Sikh Virgin' at the heart of a 'twisted love triangle'. Mundill, Ravi and Ravi's accomplice Darren Peters were all charged with murder but ended up with different convictions and wildly different sentences.
