    <title lang="en">Murder Case: The Digital Detectives</title>
<desc>The series that follows police forces' digital forensics units as they dig deep inside murder cases across the UK. And today, the most compelling evidence isn't always found at the scene; it's hidden inside digital devices, buried in metadata and scattered across social media platforms.

A fake £20 note, deadly gang rivalry and a digital trail expose the truth behind a killing. In March 2020, 19-year-old Jaydon McFarlane - aka Lampz - was fatally stabbed in broad daylight on a residential street in Ashford, Kent by a man wielding both a zombie knife and a kitchen knife. As detectives began a fast-moving murder investigation, CCTV and digital forensics quickly identified the suspect as teenager Osita Alagbaoso. Osita and his friends Joseph Matimba and Hassan Tejan were arrested within hours. The motive for the murder lay in the digitals. The men were once friends but now belonged to rival gangs that had become embroiled in a dispute over counterfeit £20 notes used to buy cannabis, culminating in a terrifying chase through a shopping centre between armed gang members. As detectives dug deeper, they revealed that each digital device told a story, including a prison call celebrating McFarlane's death. Prod/Dir: Charlie Corbett; Exec Prods: Joe Mather, Michelle Cox; Prod Co: BBC Studios

Short:
A trivial slight between former friends turned gang rivals spirals into a fatal act of revenge. Digital forensics follow the trail and expose how the smallest conflict can turn into deadly violence.

Connecting a string of isolated small towns, its remoteness, backpacker and hitch-hiker traffic and proximity to back roads make it dangerous territory. Since 1970, 11 people have been reported missing or murdered, and many of those cases remain unsolved. In this series, a team of world-leading experts in geography, criminology, forensic archaeology and investigative journalism are determined to find answers. Part of True Crime on Channel 4.

The first episode re-opens the case of Anita Cunningham and Robin Hoinville-Bartram, two 18-year-old students who set out for the adventure of a lifetime in 1972, planning to hitch the 1500 miles from their Melbourne home to the far north of Queensland. They never reached their destination. Robin's body was eventually discovered after four months in a shallow grave beneath a railway bridge at Sensible Creek. Anita's remains have never been found. Rumours persist that they were seen getting into a car with a group of men, one of whom was known only as 'Cowboy'. But who was he, and could Anita and Robin be the first of several more of his victims? Decades on, Anita's brother David is desperate to know, and returns to Sensible Creek with archaeologist and criminologist Louise Steding, hoping to finally put the mystery to rest.

Short:

Robin's body was later discovered in a shallow grave, but Anita has never been found. Decades later, Anita's brother David returns to her last known whereabouts.

In 1978, Kiwi tourists Karen, Gordon and Timothy planned to motorcycle from Darwin to the coast at Townsville. After stopping off at a remote caravan park at Mount Isa, they were never seen alive again. All three were found shot dead and stripped of their posessions at nearby Spear Creek that October. Several potential witnesses mentioned a bearded man in a distinctive four-wheel drive as a person of interest. Decades later in 2019, prison guard Bruce John Preston was convicted of the triple murder, having been found with one of the victims' bikes. The police are still sure they closed the case, but Gordon's brother John remains unconvinced.

<desc>Australia's desolate Flinders Highway stretches more than 500 miles across the Queensland outback between Townsville and Mount Isa.

In 1982, backpacker Tony Jones planned to meet his brother Tim in Mount Isa. But Tony never arrived. He was last seen in the dusty, red-dirt town of Hughenden where, 14 years later, abattoir worker Andy Albury would boast to police that he'd murdered more than a dozen people. Was Tony one of those victims? Albury is a dream suspect for the police - and he confessed. But there are loose ends and several other leads, and Tony's family have spent decades acting as amateur detectives, slowly piecing together a picture of police incompetence, opportunistic killers attracted to lonely outposts, and a string of possible further victims. Hughenden is full of secrets, and the fate of Tony Jones is still one of them.

Short:
Abattoir worker Andy Albury boasted to police that he'd murdered a dozen people. Was Tony Jones, who disappeared from Hughenden in 1982, really one of his victims? Tony's family believe there's far more to the story.
